Focus on Christ

 Helllooo my friends!!!

We had quite the interesting week here in Malvin!! Our ward building is also the mission office and this week we had 30 new missionaries come!! Which meant a lot of transfers and missionaries moving all around, so our house became the rest stop hahah. We hosted like 7 different missionaries on various days, and it was so fun!! But we also have no food now jajaja. 


After a really slow couple days, because all our lessons were canceled, we had one of our friends randomly text us and ask if we could give her a tour of the temple grounds. We were like Sure ,jaja it's about a 2 hour walk from our apartment and she wanted to do the tour at 8am. We had actually never met her before because she was a referral, and so we ended up teaching her the first lesson, on the temple grounds, with some rando temple worker that decided to join!! Ahaha the spirit was SO strong, and she was just so excited about the blessings a temple can provide. By far, the best part of this week!!


On Thursday we decided to make cookies and deliver them to members! That's not really a thing here haha but they ended up loving it. Well, most of them jaja. We went to this one lady's apartment, and by some miracle we snuck in through the 14 gates and we finally got to her door. We told her it was the missionaries and we tried giving her the cookies and she just stood there and stared at them. Then goes `”how do I know you didn't put something bad in there” and we were like “oh no, we promise they`re super good, nothing bad”. This exchange went on for about 5 minutes, this woman was convinced we poisoned the cookies, and she literally never took them jaja it was sooo awkward and I was trying not to laugh the whole time. Ya win some ya lose some. 


I was reading the New Testament this week, and re read one of my favorite stories. The one where Christ walks on water, and Peter attempts to come unto him. I remembered a conference talk called “Look down the Road”. In it, he explains how one of the lessons we can learn from Peter`s experience is to focus down the road, not just at what is directly ahead of us. Peter became worried about the treacherous waves and winds right in front of him, he lost sight of the goal, Christ.


Sometimes, especially now in Uruguay, I get really frustrated with myself that I can`t speak well enough or understand everything yet. But I had a realization this week, that my goal of being a missionary isn´t to become fluent in Spanish! It's to spread the gospel! As long as I can focus on Christ, and his gospel, the rest will work out. I´ve been trying to have a little bit more of an eternal perspective, or looking down the road, instead of what's just directly in front of me at the moment.

Since i probably won't write a letter muahaha I decided I'd write you guys one since I don't think I've ever done that  My week was good. My comp is good she's super fun. She definitely likes to work a little ~slower~ which is an adjustment but it's alright.  Had a zone conference with our new president and his 6 kids, his youngest is 3! Haha it was funny they introduced themselves and the 3 yr old was up there screaming the whole time lol. His oldest is 15, I think. His wife speaks pretty good Spanish, she studied it in college, although never served a mission. They lived in China for a few years, because when you're super rich you can do that kind of thing. So, they all speak fluent Chinese so that's kind of weird.  But ya he's cool.   He goes "ya when I got here, I thought president Escobar was going to talk to me about the rules and the standards, but he just gave me like 50 hugs"  It was SO funny because that's very typical preside

Hermana Party Planning

  Hii everyone What a weeeek!!  Started off getting a random vaccine from a south american doctors office, that looked like it belonged in a horror movie, in hopes of not getting deported haha. Do I know what it was for? No. But my arm really hurts Other than that, this week was pretty dang good!! We were walking down the street one day when we met Irene, who we ended up talking to and sharing a scripture with. Halfway through, she told us she was a member of our church, but just hadn't been since she was 14. She invited us over for dinner the next day and we ended up having a really powerful lesson about the Book of Mormon with her and her husband who is not a member. Then on Sunday they all came to church, it was the best miracle ever!!  The second-best part of this week though was definitely the ward party. Family History Baptism

Well just start off with the best news ever!! The Perez family was baptized this Saturday!!! Best. Day. Ever.  About a month and a half ago Hermana Fernández and I started teaching Liliana and her kids. It's been so incredible to watch them change and progress in the gospel. From the first time they came to church, they were super committed to the gospel. Her jóvenes have been attending all the activities and when we see them their countenances are just beaming.  The baptismal was a tad bit loco, but in a good way (mostly) hahah.  When we got to the church, the font was filled up like maybe a foot. We were like ahhh crap. We vigorously started filling pots of water and dumping them in the font it was a sight to behold that's for sure.  Sooo many people came to support them, which meant we were all super squished into the room with the baptismal font.
